What Is Clipping? A Plain Explanation, Not a Checklist

By Yash Khanna, CEO, Clipt

Clipping is the practice of cutting short vertical highlights, usually 15 to 90 seconds, from longer source content like Twitch streams, podcasts, or interviews, and posting them to TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. Clippers are often unaffiliated with the original creator, working from public footage or from paid campaigns that creators and brands fund directly. The format exists because short-form platforms now drive discovery, and long-form creators want that reach without personally re-editing their own footage. This post also distinguishes legitimate, permission-based clipping from unauthorized reposting, and explains at a high level how clippers get paid, including real campaign minimums and per-clip rates.
