How the TikTok Algorithm Actually Scores Your Clip

By Yash Khanna, CEO, Clipt

Explains the TikTok distribution model for clippers. Every upload gets an initial test push to roughly 200 viewers within the first hour regardless of quality, and landing under 200 views usually indicates the account is still flagged as bot or spam behaviour rather than a content problem. The algorithm then weighs two things: watch time, measured as average watch time and full video watched, and engagement, where the signals are not equal and rank shares above saves above comments above likes. Strong metrics expand distribution in stages of roughly 200, 800, 1,000, 2,000 and 10,000 views, with a re-test at each tier, and a dip in watch time or engagement causes the video to flatline. Retention targets scale with length: 20 to 25 percent full video watched for a 1 minute video, around 40 percent at 30 seconds, and 70 to 80 percent at 15 seconds, which is why 35 to 45 seconds is the recommended sweet spot for non-CRP videos.
